On January 20, 2023, Zameen Organization for Development and Peacebuilding held a dialogue session entitled “Cultural Events and Their Role in Promoting Community Cohesion,” in the city of Qamishli, northeastern Syria.
The activity aimed to create a safe space for dialogue for the societal components in the Jazira region, and to identify the reality of cultural events, in addition to coming up with recommendations and proposals to enhance the role of culture in promoting community cohesion.
The activity was attended by 17 people from different components of society and of both sexes, representing various cultural institutions in the region, in addition to intellectuals, artists, journalists and civil activists from the Jazira region.
The activity reviewed the richness and diversity of cultural activities in the Al Jazeera region, which in turn reflects the existing cultural diversity, in addition to the ancient civilization that characterizes the region. Which takes a participatory nature, and plays a major role in introducing each component to the cultures of the other components.
The session concluded, which included a group of simple cultural activities. With a set of recommendations and proposals that would work on more rapprochement between the components in the island region through cultural events, which lead as a result to the strengthening of societal cohesion.
