A dialogue session in Qamishli about hate speech
Zameen Organization for Development and Peacebuilding held, on Saturday, November 19, a dialogue session on hate speech and its impact on social cohesion in Al-Jazira region in particular, and northeastern Syria in general, at the organization’s center in Qamishli.
The session was attended by human rights and civil activists, media professionals, representatives of civil society organizations, as well as social influencers of both sexes and from all components.
The attendees discussed hate speech in the social environment, and the role of the media in spreading the discourse, in addition to the role of ignorance and the lack of a legal deterrent preventing the spread of hate speech. Societal cohesion and integration, and its classification as a structure for violence
The session concluded with a set of recommendations and proposals that focused on the educational aspect, whether at home or in schools, and what churches and mosques can play in removing this discourse, and issuing deterrent laws that prevent and punish hate speech, in order to consolidate social cohesion and reject hate.
