A dialogue session on the challenges facing female journalists in north and east Syria
On Thursday, February 17, 2022, the Zameen Organization for Development and Peacebuilding held a dialogue session entitled the challenges facing female journalists in north and east Syria, at the organization’s headquarters in Qamishli.
participants participated in the session, including activists and journalists, and representatives of media unions and unions located in north and east Syria (Free Media Union, Syrian Kurdish Journalists Network, Syrian Women’s Council, Sara Organization to Combat Violence against Women – Syrian Media Center and freedom of expression) and journalists working in media outlets (Soroyo Foundation – Massaha Platform – Al-Hal Website – Syria Post – Adar Press) including (from various components (Arabs, Kurds, Syriac)
The activity aims to know the challenges and difficulties faced by female journalists while performing their media work, how to secure better working conditions, the role of press unions and unions in north and east Syria and the laws regulating violations against female journalists, and to come up with proposals and recommendations to reach ways of safety and security for female journalists and build confidence between them and the Press unions.
The session concluded with a set of recommendations and proposals that would limit violations against women journalists, encourage a culture of complaint among the concerned authorities, in addition to strengthening the role of trade unions and civil society organizations in defending the rights of women journalists and building a bridge of trust between them.
